We were on island during Hurricane Dorian, and were evacuated with 250 others on a ferry to Nassau, chartered by one of several charities that sprung up in the aftermath of Abaco's largest hurricane. Our experience is concisely reported in Steve Dodge's excellent 2021 Cruising Guide to Abaco.
The house fared well relative to our neighbours', and in November 2020 a structural engineer confirmed the integrity of the building. We commenced rebuild work in early 2020, and expect completion by late 2021. The interior was stripped back to the stud walls, and insulated with spray foam once a mold remediation specialist from Nassau had dehumidified and treated the structure. All furnishings and appliances are new, except ironically for the teak furniture from the deck, which we stored in the garage. Outside, the decks, railings, arbors and staircases have been replaced.
